AZ Legislative Update: House Appropriations Committee Rejects “Skinny Budget” Proposal
Earlier today, the House Appropriations Committee failed to pass all twelve budget bills by a vote of 6-7. The bills were essentially a baseline continuation of this year’s budget and did not spend any of the State’s current $5.3 billion surplus.
Republican members Jake Hoffman and Michelle Udall joined with the Democrats on the committee to vote no, rejecting the proposed “skinny/baseline/continuation” budget plan.
With no resolution in sight, both the House and Senate have adjourned for the remainder of the week.
Leadership and the Governor’s Office are becoming increasingly frustrated with the lack of progress. Earlier in the day, Governor Ducey publicly said that passing a “skinny budget” essentially amounts to leaders not doing their jobs.
As the process continues to evolve, we’ll to keep you posted; however, it is becoming more and more likely that session will go well into June.
