AZ Legislative Update – May 5, 2022

Today marks the 116th day of the Arizona 55th Legislature, 2nd Regular Session.  Of the 1,780 bills introduced this year, the Legislature has now passed 226 bills with Governor Ducey signing 218 and vetoing 0.

The Legislature and the Governor’s Office remain worlds apart on finalizing a FY 2023 spending package with reportedly K-12 education spending and additional transportation dollars slowing things up. As the budget impasse continues, both legislative chambers once again had an abbreviated work schedule this week with only a handful of bills heard on the floor.

As each day passes, tensions continue to mount, and members are feeling the pressure to act sooner than later, especially with the August 2nd primary election date looming. Nevertheless, the process remains fluid and things are subject to change quickly.
